My Approach

I am a small but mighty collection of thinking, dreaming, and creativity.

As a counsellor, I am committed to creating a non-judgmental environment and working at your pace.

I have an integrative approach, incorporating modalities such as Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Existential Therapy, and the use of creative arts. I guide my clients towards deeper self-awareness and understanding.

My focus is to support you as you navigate life transitions, grief, illness, and other challenges, offering both short and long-term sessions tailored to your individual needs.

The focus lies in the process of creation, allowing clients to assemble insights about their circumstances and nurture emotional resilience through artmaking.

Whether in-person or through online sessions, my goal is to help you connect with your inner self, fostering positive changes, and guiding you towards a more authentic and meaningful life. Take the first step towards healing and self-discovery with me in individual sessions and group workshops.

Discover the Healing Power
of the Creative Arts

Art has been intertwined with adaptation and creative problem-solving throughout history and being an essential part of our well-being, making it an accessible starting point for those who may feel intimidated by traditional counselling. Engaging in art creation can be calming and comforting, even when addressing challenging topics. Art provides a safe space for individuals to explore their curiosity and find hope and healing. It’s especially important in helping people process trauma, allowing them to express and process emotions that might be difficult to put into words.

Using a creative approach also encompasses informal mindfulness, helping individuals immerse themselves in the present moment and encouraging mindful exploration of materials and sensory experiences, leading to powerful therapeutic outcomes.

The Goals of Counselling
with Creative Arts

Creative expression becomes a way to share and reconstruct meaningful stories from life events. Individuals can delve into their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Artwork often serves as a starting point for uncovering and understanding suppressed emotions, offering opportunities for personal growth, and learning from life experiences.

Whether you’re looking for understanding, seeking to reconsider life events, or simply hoping for a fresh perspective, art provides a welcoming space to construct new meanings and find significance in overlooked experiences.

I can Help With . . .

Depression

It’s completely normal to feel this way when you’ve devoted so much of yourself to others. It’s important to acknowledge that your own emotions may become strained. You could find yourself feeling angry, tearful, and lacking motivation. It may even lead to a sense of hopelessness or constant fatigue. Sometimes, a lingering sadness or emptiness can be hard to overcome. You might notice feelings of pessimism, irritability, frustration, or restlessness creeping in. It’s essential to prioritize your emotional well-being during these times.

Anxiety

I understand that uneasy knot in the pit of your stomach. It’s like a constant unease that makes it hard to relax. The feeling of being on edge, expecting the worst to happen, can be overwhelming. Sometimes, it’s like the world is moving too fast or too slow, and you feel out of control. You might start to believe that others can see your anxiety, which only adds to the pressure. This could lead to irritability, frequent snapping, or even panic attacks and physical symptoms. Remember, it’s okay to feel this way, and there are strategies to help you navigate through these tough moments.

Bereavement

Losing someone you care about is a deeply personal and challenging experience. While we all face loss as a natural part of life, it doesn’t diminish the pain you feel when saying goodbye to a loved one. It’s common to sense an expectation to “move on” or find closure, but these notions can sometimes make grieving even more complicated. Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to navigate through your emotions during this difficult time. Allow yourself the space and time you need to grieve and heal in your own unique way.

Domestic Violence and Abuse (DVA) or Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)

I want you to know that I understand how difficult it can be when you feel like your sense of control, freedom, or safety is being compromised. Domestic violence or intimate partner violence involves actions or behaviors that make you feel coerced, threatened, or manipulated in some way. This can manifest as physical violence, emotional abuse, or aggressive behavior that leaves you feeling trapped or unsafe. Your feelings and experiences are valid, and it’s important to seek help and support to ensure your well-being and safety.

Trauma

I understand how traumatic events can be incredibly difficult to process, especially when they feel like they’re too much to bear. Whether it’s a single event or a prolonged period of distress, know that you’re not alone in grappling with the effects of trauma. Your feelings are valid, and there are resources and support systems ready to help you work through this and heal.

Other

I want you to know that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed or struggling with various challenges in life. Counseling can be a safe space to explore and work through these issues. Whether you feel conflicted, going through major life changes, experiencing burnout, or dealing with distressing news like an illness, it’s important to acknowledge your feelings and seek support. You don’t have to face these obstacles alone, and talking to a counselor can provide you with the tools and guidance to navigate through these tough times.
